A stylish Abbotsford house where an iconic Australian television series was filmed will be auctioned later this month with $1.35m-$1.425m price hopes.
Built as a corner store in 1887, 138 Park St was converted to two-bedroom abode about six decades ago.
Owner Gavin Wood said scenes from the Logie-award winning drama The Sullivans were recorded at the home.
The program starred several famous faces including Michael Caton, Kerry Armstrong, Mel Gibson, Dannii Minogue, Kylie Minogue, Sam Neill, Sigrid Thornton, Bert Newton, Gary Sweet and Charles ‘Bud’ Tingwell in some 1114 episodes between 1976-1983.
Mr Wood, wife Jasmin and their seven-year-old son Sasha live at the home they purchased nine years ago, attracted by the proximity to the Yarra River and Smith St.
They also loved the house’s glass-roofed mezzanine study and history including a vintage Velvet Soap sign on an outside wall, as viewed through the bathroom’s skylight.
“When you lie back in the bath, you can see the sign,” Mr Wood said.
A large-scale renovation saw them demolish a separate “lean-to” housing a bathroom, kitchen and laundry.
They imported a green-coloured magnetic wall featuring movable plant pots from the US to install in the new bathroom.
“Most of our friends, when they come over, it’s their favourite thing,” Mr Wood said.
Other property highlights include a Smeg-fitted kitchen where dual bi-fold windows open to an alfresco deck and leafy Balinese-style garden.
“I often sit out there and work from home and the soothing sounds of the water feature are calming and peaceful,” Mr Wood added.
The outdoor paving stones were based on a design they photographed while staying in Ubud.
Mr Wood said the area was friendly with nearby residents hosting an annual street Christmas party and Gahan Reserve being a great spot to enjoy dinner with neighbours.
Jellis Craig Fitzroy partner Lee Muddle Partner said the house’s spacious downstairs open plan living and dining area, boasting a gas open fire place, remained private due to mirrored window glazing.
“We are getting a mix of young couples and families with one child expressing interest in the property,” Mr Muddle said.
The auction will be held 10am on August 20.
