Buyers were so taken by the high-spec renovation that upped the Mediterranean holiday vibe at a Batesford home inspired by the late Sean Connery’s Spanish manor that they also bought the furniture.
The original owner of 21 Shepherd Rd, Batesford, based his plans for the sprawling country home on a sketch he drew of the actor’s Marbella mansion.
The circa $2m residence’s trademark Spanish mission arches, terracotta roof tiles and cathedral ceilings have now become the heroes of a sophisticated modern-day renovation.
The buyers will become the fourth owners to take up residence at the 8000sq m property overlooking the Moorabool Valley.
Imported Italian porcelain tiles, travertine basins and brass tapware are among features chosen for their European feel in the renovation completed after the vendors bought the property in 2020.
The sellers even commissioned local tradespeople to craft a curved stone dining table and custom buffet seating to create a unique new open-plan kitchen/dining area.
The home also features an impressive bar with two wine fridges and a solid brass glass rack, two living areas with exposed timber beams and a palatial main bedroom with space for a lounge suite.
Ray White, Highton agent George Politis said the buyers had relocated to Geelong where they had been renting for some time.
The house was the first built in Batesford farmland that’s since been developed into the Riverstone estate.
Mr Politis said the home differed from the houses typically sold at Batesford these days.
“The feedback from 90 per cent of the people that we had was that the photos did not go it justice,” he said.
“The homes that I’ve sold previously are ultra-modern, oversized Armstrong Creek-style homes.
“This one is modern, but it’s got a particular taste.
“The purchaser just fell in love with it, they loved the size of the sheds, the loved the house they said it was styled and looked amazing and they actually even bought the furniture off the owners.”
