Fancy a lifestyle property that’s within easy reach of Adelaide and its world-renowned wine regions yet feels like it’s a world away from the hustle and bustle?
A Kapunda acreage estate is offering househunters the ultimate country escape.
Known as Drummore, the sprawling 163.56ha estate at 410 Tarlee Rd includes a renovated and extended homestead, indoor magnesium pool, tennis court, multiple sheds for a range of uses and arable farming land, currently producing export hay.
It will go to auction on October 29, first as a whole but if not sold then the two titles will be offered separately – the 43.52ha lot with homestead and 120.04ha farm land.
Owners Reg and Sue Nelson bought the two-title property in 2007 then breathed new life into the homestead in 2012.
“It was basically a 1970s-style, very solid brick farmhouse,” Mr Nelson said.
“We’ve really transformed it and added on a big extension.”
It spans two levels and has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, with the kitchen, dining and living rooms forming the hub of the home.
Upstairs the master bedroom with ensuite and a large office offer panoramic views of the picturesque surroundings.
Mr Nelson used to commute to the city each day but said it was much nicer working from the home office with a breathtaking vista in the background.
“It’s beautiful country here, we fell in love with it,” Mr Nelson said.
While the cropping land isn’t commercially viable by itself, it does produce some income for the Nelsons as they share it with a local farmer who uses the land to produce export hay.
The couple love a challenge so have decided to sell their beloved home to start a new project with the same builder behind Drummore’s architecturally-designed extension.
“We love the property, we’re just moving down the road to build something bigger,” Mr Nelson said.
Ray White Rural South Australia principal Daniel Schell, who is selling the property with Geoff Schell, said it was a rare offering.
“Kapunda is a farming area so we do see 400 acres like that but what you don’t see is homes like this,” he said.
“Something like this is really quite unusual in that the renovation and extension that was done was architecturally designed.
“We’ve had huge amount of inquiries, we’ve had lots of phone calls and emails about the property requesting information.”
