Shipping container home in Googong ‘challenging’ the senses

An architecturally designed masterpiece made entirely from shipping containers is the first of its kind to be marketed in the Canberra region.

Inspired by Grand Designs Australia, 30 Carver Street is a large family home situated in Googong, just south of Queanbeyan and minutes from Canberra’s CBD.

“From an engineering perspective, the home was a challenge,” selling agent Jason Roses from Verv said.

“The owners wanted to showcase the uniqueness and boldness of the elements they were using, but also wanted it to feel like a warm family home.”

The home comprises a number of different textures and materials that give it a striking visual appear, Mr Roses said.

“Reclaimed timbers, steel, pressed metals, rose gold and concrete … it’s the many different finishes that make it so visually unique.”

The generous two-storey residence offers 282 sqm of living, with another 51.3 sqm of combined outdoor entertaining.

‘An engineering challenge.’

‘Reclaimed timbers, steel, pressed metals, rose gold and concrete … it’s the many different finishes that make it so visually unique.’

Ideal for families.

Four large bedrooms plus a study, two bathrooms, a powder room, two living areas, and a home theatre make the home ideal for families.

“There’s not one room in the house where those unusual elements aren’t there in a very strong way,” Mr Roses said.

“As soon as you walk in the entry, you’ve got that entire wall of metal and handles, and the shipping containers even feature in the ceilings in the bedrooms. They’ve carefully curated this to match their vision, and it’s extremely rare.”

The heart of the home is the upstairs living space, he said.

“With 4.5m high ceilings, beautiful timber floors, and reclaimed timber features, it leads to the substantial outdoor entertaining area taking in the mountain views.”

‘Carefully curated.’

And ‘extremely rare’.

Striking design and spacious proportions.

Googong is a thriving township known for its strong sense of community and welcoming nature, with a vibrant calendar of family friendly festivals through the year.

“There’s been a boom here,” Mr Roses said.

“I’ve heard of people as recently as last week who’ve recently sold in Googong, moved to other parts of Canberra, then decided to move back because they’ve missed the sense of community and connection.”

He has been overwhelmed with interest in the Carver Street property. People are being drawn to its striking design, and to the home’s spacious proportions.

The property will be auctioned on Saturday 20 August, with a price guide of $950,000-plus.
