Stunning home in Adelaide’s prized pocket

This Hyde Park home has all your entertaining needs covered, whether that be inside the home itself, or just down the road at one of King William Rd’s prized cafes, bars and restaurants

Grant and Andrea Bressington bought 4B Mitchell Street as a brand new property about nine years ago, attracted by its prime location and proximity to some of the state’s best dining and shopping opportunities.

“I’ve had a number of houses in the area prior to this one and I’ve always had the same postcode – I had a home in Unley prior to this one and we lived in Hyde Park in a different place while we were looking to buy – and when we found this one we were very happy indeed,” Mr Bressington says.

“That little pocket there – Unley, Hyde Park, Wayville – we’ve always loved that area. Where we are here on Mitchell St, we’re only a few doors down from the entrance to King William Rd, which is the best part of that road, with most of the restaurants, and we’ve got the Hyde Park Hotel and a bakery across the road – there’s plenty to like. You can just walk out there and get any type of food – it’s a bit of a hotspot for that. The road’s just been upgraded – they spent millions down there – and it’s just fantastic and really lifted the profile of the whole street and taken it to another level. So to have access to that has been brilliant.

“When we bought it the home was brand new, so it’s a single owner home, and it was all done so perfectly that we didn’t need to change it at all or update any aspect of it. We did put solar on to help keep power bills down going forward.

“Because we lived in the area prior to buying the house, we actually watched it go up, and we had it in out sights as it was being built. Then we got to know the builder, who was our neighbour for some time, and we liked the way it was put together, and we could see that the quality was there.

“It was almost like building it ourselves, even though we didn’t, and we could see that it would really suit us, our interests and our situation, and it really has. I mean, it kept us there for 10 years and we’ve been really happy here.

“It’s really the whole package and it offers us a fantastic lifestyle.”

Built to be low maintenance, Mr Bressington says the home’s clever layout and contemporary design worked perfectly for him and Andrea as a couple, and later as a young family with a toddler.

“It’s really lock-up-and-leave,” Mr Bressington says. “We have a beach house down on the south coast which we head down to pretty much every weekend, and it’s really convenient for that because it’s got automation so you can put the sprinklers on from your phone and open the garage and so on. The backyard is a good size, but it’s easily manageable, and that convenience and being able to easily leave it and not worry about it is brilliant.”

The home has three bedrooms – two upstairs separated by a retreat and luxe family bathroom, and the master at the front of the lower level and complete with a walk-through robe and an ensuite. An open-plan kitchen, dining and living area sits at the rear, opening to a covered alfresco area that overlooks the rear yard.

It’s a floorplan that makes family living, and entertaining, a breeze, Mr Bressington says.

“We had our engagement party there with 45 people and it was very easy because we could open up those big sliding doors, so the inside becomes outside, and the kitchen is brilliant,” Mr Bressington says.

“If you love having people around are that way inclined, meeting there for nibbles and drinks is a great starting point, and then you can head out for dinner on King William Rd and then come back there to finish the night off with a drink – it’s perfect for that.”

With the family now looking for something that better suits the next stage of their lives, Mr Bressington says it’s time to say goodbye to the home they love, adding it would be ideal for anyone from a small family, to a downsizer, an empty nester or a young professional.

“This place will always be special to us because it was our first home, and it really does have a special feel about it anyway,” he says. “But we won’t be moving far. We’re definitely not leaving the area. We’re 5061 all the way.”
