Stylist’s renovated home has chic she-shed

Merrimac homeowner Lesa Lambert is selling her home with a custom-built she-shed in the backyard

A renovated Gold Coast home with a custom-built “she-shed” dreamt up during lockdown will go to auction next month.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 35 Longmorn Cres, Merrimac is marketed by Tina Nenadic, of Gold Coast Property Sales and Rentals, and goes under the hammer on August 14.

Homeowner Lesa Lambert said the backyard hobby hut was the finishing touch to renovations of the dated yet character-filled property she and concreter husband, Greg, purchased for $595,000 in 2016.

Ms Lambert designed the 3x3m shed herself and it was completed by a local builder in 2020 at a cost of about $12,000.

It was styled with a day bed and soft furnishings

It features exterior white cladding and a polished concrete floor with recycled cottage doors, and was decked out in whimsical furnishings including a day bed and plush cushions.

Ms Lambert, a stylist who works as a visual merchandiser for a national homewares brand, said she used the studio daily to undertake craft projects, work from home, or relax with a good book and a glass of bubbles.

“I thought the front yard still needs something, but my husband wouldn’t let me put a pool in there,” the mum-of-three said.

“Then one night I had a dream that I walked out the front door of our house and there was this fantastic little she-shed and I had all my craft stuff in there.

“I told my husband about it and how I’d love for that dream to come true.

“He said, ‘if we’re going to do a shed it might as well be a good one’,” she said.

Eclectic coastal style on the central Gold Coast

The home has a sunny northern aspect

The couple had previously renovated more than ten homes on the Gold Coast, and purchased the 702sq m property in Merrimac close to where their youngest son Reid, now 19, attended school.

Ms Lambert said the home’s northern aspect, high ceilings and wraparound verandahs immediately captured her heart.

“The house had purple walls and a green bathroom inside. It was quite horrendous and was styled with a red lounge but I could see past that,” she said.

The offending walls were repainted white, while two new bathrooms were added and the kitchen also renovated with stone benchtops.

Overseas interest in Gold Coast pushes up rental demand

Tropical patterned wallpaper featured in bedrooms and living spaces, and Ms Lambert’s eclectic style blending Asian and Moroccan influences shone through with traditional Indian teak furniture and decorative screens displayed as wall art.

It’s a great home for entertaining, with the breezy back deck able to accommodate large family gatherings, while the front patio is Ms Lambert’s favourite spot to savour a morning coffee.

The floorplan comprises three bedrooms on the upper level along with the kitchen and open-plan living and dining areas leading onto expansive rear al fresco decks framed by tropical plants.

The fourth bedroom and a bathroom are on the lower level, where there’s also a double garage and workshop.

Ms Lambert said she’d re-styled the she-shed as a home office to show buyers the versatility of the outdoor space, which could also serve as a teen retreat or guest accommodation.

The family plans to rent in Broadbeach while they consider their next property purchase.

Merrimac was recently named the Gold Coast’s top investor market, with house prices up 38 per cent since last year to a median of $910,000, PropTrack figures show.

Ms Nenadic said the suburb was popular for its more affordable homes, family-friendly facilities and proximity to good schools, and provided convenient access to the motorway.
