A renovated 1890s bluestone house with its own basketball court is set to slam dunk a new Werribee record price almost $2m higher than the area’s current benchmark.
YPA Wyndham City agent Petar Krnjeta said the property’s owners had spent about $1m on the home’s outdoor features alone including a “breathtaking” outdoor entertaining area facing the pool and gym room, separate to the main home.
The impressive property at 24 Ballan Rd, listed with a $4m price tag, also boasts an underground wine cellar capable of storing about 1000 bottles, 3.96m high ceilings, a marble fireplace, ceiling roses and intricate cornices.

Mr Krnjeta said the owner, a builder, completed the renovation during Victoria’s Covid-19 lockdowns with the aim of retaining the abode’s historic charm.
“They kept the formal lounge in its original condition,” Mr Krnjeta said.

He described the house as “arguably the best property in Werribee to hit the market”.
“It’s like a resort, it has everything, you don’t have to leave except to do your shopping,” he added.
Mr Krnjeta said he owner’s four sons especially loved the 2517sq m property’s basketball court.
The house was one of the first properties to be built in Werribee.
Described as a “landmark” in Wyndham council’s 1997 heritage study, the home became known as “Hegarty’s House” in the 1920s after a Charles Hegarty moved in.

Mr Krnjeta said within two days of the property being listed he received several calls from buyers in Altona, Williamstown and Melbourne’s southeast.
“A lot of people outside of the area are looking at it for its value,” he said.
“The house itself, if you put it in Williamstown, you would be looking at a $14m-$15m asking price.
“In my opinion, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The property’s drawcards include two double car garages, a four-vehicle carport and a garage equipped with three phase power.
Mr Krnjeta said Hegarty’s House looked as if it would “well and truly smash” Werribee’s $2.21m record house price set by 93 Princes Highway in 2019.
